Under 16 Match Report v Logan
13 Jun 2023 by David Balwin
Last Sunday we came across a determined Logan that did not stop trying to their credit. From our perspective we played 50 minutes of good rugby but we let the standards we have set drop in the last ten minutes, so instead of taking totally control of the game we let Logan back in even though they played the last ten down a player due to injury.
Those last ten minutes meant that we lost the chance to be on top of the on a point for and against basis. So, this Sunday clash against Brothers will be a clash of the top two teams.
Not all was doom and gloom we won 36-21 and as they say a win is a win!
On the positive young Josh is developing as a good half back all ready having a good pass and showing a willingness to run, but on Sunday added another weapon to his armoury, with a beautifully placed box kick which saw the Logan fullback make an error that gave us a try.
Likewise, one of the bigger improvers in recent weeks Max showed what thinking rugby is about in leaping into the air from outside of the touchline and landing back in the field of play with the ball meaning we were able to keep playing which again directly led to another try for us.
While neither Josh or Max actually scored the tries and we know the mums will always give credit to the try scorer, coaches always give the credit to the player who created the try – the difference between mums and coaches (God bless mums).
Alex and Isaac were simply outstanding in defence and saved us on many occasions with a number of big hits between them.
The other person who received special mention this week is our leader Jacob, the quiet achiever who has won seven turnovers at the ruck for us in three games. This may not seem much but let me assure you nothing breaks a team’s spirit more than turning over ball in the ruck. It is a coach killer.
We are at the “Creek” this week so let’s make sure we keep our unbeaten home record intact
